Removing old downlights without damage

Old style downlights can be difficult to remove without damaging the edge of the cut-out in the ceiling. Peter Miller has found a way to remove the old lights without leaving a trace.

Peter suggests that when removing older style low voltage down lights, the ceiling is often damaged by the retaining clips as you pull the light down. To prevent this, Peter recommends that you remove the lamp and then tilt the adjustable swivel section all the way down. Then grip this part with your pliers and twist the light fitting left and right a few times. Peter has found that this twisting action dislodges the clips causing them to fall off, allowing the light to come out without damaging the ceiling.

Congratulations Peter. A cheque for $250 will be on its way to you from the Olex Cable Guy.
