Get bent, without getting kinky!

Have you ever tried making tight bends in conduit and been frustrated by the conduit kinking on the inside of the bend? One reader has sent in a simple solution that he claims, works for him every time.

Bevan Fuller from BGF Electrical in Everton Park, QLD has found an easy and very effective way of achieving tight bends in conduit. Bevan suggests that for instance, when you need to make a tight bend in 32 mm MD conduit, heat the conduit as you would normally, then insert a length of 25mm HD corrugated conduit inside the 32mm and then make your bend.

When the conduit is about 90 percent cooled, remove the corrugated conduit from inside and according to Bevan, you should be left with a nice, tight bend in your 32mm conduit that is not kinked the way conduit often does when you need to bend it tightly.
