At last! A simple D.I.Y. jig for bending saddles.
Bending up saddles by hand for fastening conduit to channel iron can be a chore (especially when you need a lot of them) but John O’Shea has devised a simple method that works.
For 20mm half saddles, John advises that you get a small length of 32mm G.I. conduit and cut a slot in one end. Cover the other end of the conduit with a rubber sleeve or heat-shrink to make it comfortable to hold.
To use the jig, fit the saddle into the slot in the conduit as shown in the photo, then holding the protruding end with pliers you can get a straight, uniform bend in the saddle with ease. You can easily make jigs for larger saddles using bigger diameter conduit.
