Gemcell was established in 1991 by six independent NSW electrical wholesalers who decided to form a buying group to allow them to compete with the large multinational electrical wholesalers. From these humble origins, Gemcell has increased in size to be Australia's largest independent electrical wholesaler with 35 member companies and 252 branches across the country. In 2010 Gemcell became a member of IMELCO, an international electrical wholesale group based in Europe, improving our ability to compete in an increasingly global market.

Gemcell is headed by our Chairman Rod Harvey (Lecky's) who is supported by a Board of six Directors from our Member Companies. These Directors are: Laurie Murphy (CNW), John Moore (Electrical Distributors of WA, Bernie O'Neill (Gordon Macdonald), John O'Neill (Mekolec & Co),  Anton Middendorp (Middy's) and John Rhigas (P&R Electrical).

Gemcell’s Head Office is located in Pennant Hills, Sydney, NSW and staffed by our Administration Manager and Administration Assistant.
